About Peachtree Paddle
Peachtree Paddle, founded in 2005 by Peter Lauer, is dedicated to growing the sport of platform tennis (aka "paddle") in the Atlanta area by facilitating league and social play, sponsoring events, and spearheading efforts to build platform tennis courts.
Over the past 10 years, Peachtree Paddle has grown from a handful of members and only 2 courts to over 150 active members and 13 courts.
In December 2016, Peachtree Paddle achieved its goal of "public access paddle" in Atlanta with the completion of a brand new platform tennis facility at the Bitsy Grant Tennis Center. The facility features 3 brand new courts, state of the art LED lighting, and a warming hut with fireplace, TVs, and spectacular viewing.
Although platform tennis can be played year-round, it is primarily a winter sport. The Peachtree Paddle season runs October through March, with a kickoff event in September.
Peachtree Paddle offers its members a flexible, web-based match scheduling system. With the introduction of the public courts at Bitsy Grant, Peachtree Paddle expanded its program offerings for the 2016/17 season to include league format play, instructional clinics, and members only tournaments.
Peachtree Paddle also sponsors the Peachtree Invitational, a national ranking tournament featuring over 150 players from across the country. This year's tournament is scheduled for February 22-24, 2019. In 2015, the tournament received TV coverage on WSBTV Atlanta (CBS affiliate). The piece, titled “The Fastest Growing Sport in Atlanta” aired on the evening news and on the WSBTV website.
